aLbum story:
from law to music
Frances Tan is a Singaporean singer-songwriter whose debut album I AM FRANCES marks her transition from law to music.
'I AM FRANCES' tells the story of how Frances grew up with a deep love for music in an environment where pursuing it as more than a hobby was not encouraged. After taking a conventional path to law school, she eventually made the decision to take a leap of faith and pursue music after graduating from law school.
I AM FRANCES captures the first chapter of that journey — from writing songs in secret to finally giving herself permission to be an artist.
Through deeply introspective and reflective songwriting, the album explores questions of identity, purpose, expectation, and the dreams we often leave behind as we grow older.
It asks: What happens to the dreams we once carried inside us when we grow up? And what if that little voice inside is exactly who we were created to be?
gotta be:
record of the year, Song of the year,
pop solo performance
“Gotta Be” is a self-empowerment song about living life on your own terms and timeline, and not letting the expectations of others define your worth.
It is a reminder that everyone’s journey looks different, and that at the end of the day, what matters is whether we are truly happy with the life we have chosen for ourselves.
