About
Frances Tan is an award-winning Singaporean singer-songwriter, author, and speaker based in Los Angeles, California.
After graduating from the London School of Economics and Political Science in 2022 with an LLB in Law, Frances chose to pursue her lifelong passion for music, earning a Master’s degree in Songwriting from New York University, Steinhardt. There, she studied songwriting with multi-platinum, Grammy- and Emmy-winning songwriters including Phil Galdston, David Wolfert, Dana Calitri, and Maia Sharp, and studied voice with Grammy-winning jazz vocalist Nicole Zuraitis and Dianna Heldman.
Following graduation, Frances relocated to Nashville, where she spent a year immersed in the country and Christian music communities before moving to Los Angeles. She is currently pursuing an LL.M. specializing in Entertainment Law at UCLA, continuing to explore the intersection of music, law, creativity, and the business of entertainment.
Debut album
In 2026, Frances released her award-winning debut album, I AM FRANCES.
'I AM FRANCES' tells the story of how Frances grew up with a deep love for music in an environment where pursuing it as more than a hobby was not encouraged. After taking a conventional path to law school, she eventually made the decision to take a leap of faith and pursue music after graduating from law school.
I AM FRANCES captures the first chapter of that journey — from writing songs in secret to finally giving herself permission to be an artist.
Through deeply introspective and reflective songwriting, the album explores questions of identity, purpose, expectation, and the dreams we often leave behind as we grow older. It asks: What happens to the dreams we once carried inside us when we grow up? And what if that little voice inside is exactly who we were created to be?
